MeCure Industries PLC participated in the High-Level Stakeholders' Meeting on the NMEP-World Bank-funded IMPACT Project, anchored by the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD). The meeting brought together government officials, development partners, regulators, and pharmaceutical industry leaders to discuss strategies for strengthening local medicine manufacturing in Nigeria.
During the meeting, I had the opportunity to deliver a presentation on "Standardising Local Medicines to Meet WHO-PQ Requirements." The presentation emphasized that achieving WHO Prequalification (WHO-PQ) requires coordinated action across government, regulators, development partners and industry, highlighting the critical role of quality systems, regulatory efficiency, infrastructure, financing and industry commitment in positioning Nigeria as a competitive pharmaceutical manufacturing hub.
The session provided an opportunity for engagement on practical approaches to accelerating WHO-PQ readiness, strengthening local manufacturing capacity, improving access to quality-assured medicines and enhancing Nigeria's pharmaceutical self-reliance. The event concluded with a shared commitment by stakeholders to deepen collaboration, remove barriers to pharmaceutical manufacturing, and advance initiatives that will improve healthcare outcomes while expanding the global competitiveness of locally manufactured medicines.
The meeting also provided the opportunity to engage with several distinguished stakeholders, including Dr. Onoriode Ezire, Senior Health Specialist and World Bank Team Lead for the IMPACT Project, Dr. Chika Scholastica Ezeanyanaso, Director, Nanoscience/Science Infrastructure, NASENI Abuja Headquarters, Pharm. Nkiru Ukor, WHO Nigeria Focal Point on Health Information Systems, Health Research, Digital Health and Innovation, among many other stakeholders committed to advancing Nigeria's pharmaceutical sector and many more.
